If you’re a Google Calendar user who has been looking for a real, functional and FREE way to get full use of it on your iPhone, then look no further.
This past February, Google released the Google Calendar app for iOS and I could not have been happier. I started using my Google Calendar long before I ever got an iPhone. So when I got my iPhone, I was so steeped in Google Calendar that I had no desire to switch to iCal or put my calendar in the cloud, as much as I love Apple. I’ve tried Sunrise, CalenMob, CalenGoo, and my iPhone’s own calendar app, but none of these apps could get it quite right. Why? Because none of them were made by Google.
The app is beautiful, functional and VERY easy to use; even if you share your calendar or view shared calendars. It gives you access to advanced features like invitation management, calendar privacy and event colors. It even employs Google’s ever-impressive predictive technology to make entering events quick and easy.
Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I still run my iPhone calendar (with my Google account plugged into it) along side the Google Calendar app. I’ve been doing this for two reasons. First, to act as a backup in case the Google Calendar app crashes or fails (which it hasn’t). Second, because I want to be able to use Siri with the calendar and information in the Google Calendar app is not accessible by Siri and somehow I don’t see that happening. But the good news is, I don’t have to enter events twice. The iPhone Calendar app catches all the entries I make into the Google Calendar app.
In my humble opinion, this app does a fantastic job of bringing full, rich Google Calendar functionality to iOS.
